only offering 200 soldiers (engineers actually not "proper" soldiers) to implement it?

jr9029, The French have only this evening announced they will send 2000 soilders (was that a Freudian slip on your part?). Previously they were saying 200 engineers. They only gave 2000 in response to pressure from the rest of the world. Even the Italians are going to give 3000.

No they are idiots becuase they are French. Isn't that enough?
Typical of the French though, they have never wanted to get involved in war.

Politically I have lost the plot on this one at the present time, but if the French are offering 200 engineers, that's brilliant, as the Lebanese infrastructure has been so degraded (i.e. blown to bits) skilled assistance to build it up again should not be sneered at.
It is a shame that the Arab League can't offer troops. The Jordanians have a very good army, that would act as a great peace keeping force - but the Israeli's wouldn't trust them - silly them, as although the Jordanians don't exactly like their neighbours, they would like peace on their borders.

No, actually, they have been very smart. They did not want to send out their troops in a "Bermuda triangle" to be ambushed and targeted until they had the proper assurances that their troops would be safe and that their exact role was clearly identified.
Did you forget the UNIFIL troops that were shot and killed by Israel? France did not.
