"Pluto is no longer a planet.
The International Astronomical Union approved new guidelines Thursday that downsize the solar system from nine planets to eight.
The leading astronomers, meeting in Prague, Czech Republic, stripped Pluto of the planetary status it has held since 1930, when it was discovered.
In doing so, the group provided a new definition of what is and what isn't a planet.
Pluto failed to make the new cut because its oblong orbit overlaps with Neptune's. It will now be a founding member of the new class of "dwarf planets."
The guidelines also require planets to have enough mass that they are close to round.
Astronomers have been trying to draw a distinction between the eight "classical planets" -- Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune -- and Pluto, which is smaller than Earth's moon and has an eccentric orbit. "

This is just getting some serious attention along with the other celestial bodies which will be called... something. The celestical body known as pluto has been debated as a planet or a moon or something else. The folks have apparently decided to call it something else also squashing the other three in midst.

"Pluto, a planet since 1930, got the boot because it didn't meet the new rules, which say a planet not only must orbit the sun and be large enough to assume a nearly round shape, but must 'clear the neighborhood around its orbit.' That disqualifies Pluto, whose oblong orbit overlaps Neptune's, downsizing the solar system to eight planets from the traditional nine."

Astronomers voted to remove Pluto from the list of planets. It is now included in the dwarf planets list. It was removed because it doesn't fulfill all the criteria to become classified as a planet. The main reason it fails is because it crosses the orbital path of Neptune. One of the criteria for planets is that their orbital path around the sun must be clear.

What happened is that I purchased all the rights to document that own solar system only has 8 planets. People said I was crazy 5 years ago, but yep I own them. Now for every book that documents the fact that we have 8 planets in our solar system I will collect a $.30 royalty.
Since then I have worked day and night (mostly night) to have Jupiter expelled from the solar system, a big lumbering planet that only gets in the way and is way to large to land on or explore. To my surprise they tossed out Pluto, cute little Pluto..... who would have figured.

They have redefined what it takes for a celestial body to be considered a planet. Pluto no longer meets the criteria. We now officially have 8 planets in our solar system. With Pluto now being considered a dwarf planet.

well pluto is no longer a planet. because for the better part of two decades its been in debate. you see its just too small to be considered a planet. moons on other planets are the size of pluto. instead of being a planet pluto is now a sub planet. dunno if that effects school curriculum or not but id like to see little jimmy and his solar system now.

Well, I heard from this girl who was dating my ex-friend that Pluto was dating Mars but Mars was hiding the fact that he was involved with Venus. Venus eventually did some investigating and read Mars private text messages from Pluto. So, when Venus found out she decided to get pregnant in secret to get back at Mars. Jupiter, who is Mars brother was dating Lo and Lo is a good friend of Saturn who's brother Mecury works with Venus, found out about the pregnancy. So Mars found out and was all like, "How could you betray me like this." Well while pregnant Venus changed and started to really want this baby with Mars so she told Mars everything. Feeling guilty Mars was overcome and brokedown and appologized and today broke it off with Pluto who had no idea this was all going on. So now Venus and Mars are like getting married and Pluto is just out in the cold alone when she was being like faithful and good.
Just goes to show...
