Depends what type of song you are singing. If it is a really classy song, very slow and distiguished, your biggest worry should be vowels. Always pronounce your vowels correctly. Do not slur your words; pronounce every word. Sometimes it feels like you did, but you really didn't, so pay attention especially to the first and last consanent of each important word. Sound sophisticated, and make sure to practice your butt off.

If the song is shouty and gospel-y, make sure not to be TOO loud, because it might seem like you're just hollering instead of singing. Try not to slur your words excessively; if you do, it will come out like a pop star gone wrong. Again, even though its a fun, excited song, sound sophisticated, and practice your butt off.

Also, make sure to warm up before you try out. Your voice needs to get exercise too, you know.

No matter what type of song you have, the key is confidence. Let the confidence show through in your voice, but try not to let it show too much in your motions, because people will think you're cocky. Rock the stage but add some modesty. Don't be nervous; keep in mind that you're an awesome singer and deserve the opportunity to try out. You'll do great.

This would be great if you've been doing this all your life. I'm a singer too. Here are some helpful tips:

- Before a performance, try eating a room-temp jello. This helps clear out your throat smoothly. But make sure it's not too sugary.

- Cut down on cold drinks. If you're gonna eat ice cream, make it warm in your mouth first before swallowing it.

- Try to drink hot tea (maybe with honey) before leaving home for rehearsal or a performance.

- Practice a LOT at home, but make sure you do not strain your throat when singing. Also, always keep your jaw relaxed.

- While rehearsing or performing, practice letting in and out deep breaths to make your notes powerful and steady. And in time, you'll learn to successfully sing with vibrato.

Hope all of this helps. :)

Don't worry about it. You could warm up before, and practice. For example, everyday, try expanding your lung capacity, by breathing in slowly for like, 10 seconds, and let it out slowly. It helps expand it, so you can hold your notes longer. Also, do some warm-ups. Practice some notes, like the high pitches and low pitches. Oh, and don't drink milk before. It has this certain thing that makes you clear your throat a lot.

Take a nice steamy shower.Steam helps your voice. You also should practice singing notes.
As long as you do this you'll ace the solo! Also drink lots of water
and gargle!

Honey, be thankful for your beautiful voice and quit worrying about perfection. There is no such thing as any human, being perfect. Surely they teach this at your church. Be confident and do your best. My grandmother always said when you sing for God it is always a joyful sound.

Don't have any dairy. Bend your knees just a bit. Take a deep breath. Use your diaphram. And make sure the sound is out of your throat and up in your nose.
