You really have no complaint unless they said they were certified organic or told you they were organic. There are sprays allowed for organic production any way- so the food might still be clear of synthetic pesticides. If the pesticides were used according to lable directions then your exposure was pretty low- probably none. Keep in mind that buying local produce even if it is not organic is often enviromentally better than buying organic produce that has been trucked long distances. And bear in mind that these farmers work extremely hard to produce food, make very little money and most do not like using pesticides- it is often an issue of labor. I have worked on farms and with farmers all of my life- both organic and conventional and most try very hard to produce high quality food and make a living.

Report them to whatever entities regulate such things and the Better Business Bureau and possibly the police for fraud. That is VERY serious. I would also contact the media and expose them to the public as frauds. They should not be doing business in such an unethical manner.

I would go somewhere else for my fruit and veggies. If they advertised no sprays , maybe you could get them for lack of truth in advertising. Truth be known, I have heard that even organic farmers use sprays.

1--Discuss it with friends, neighbors, and other shoppers to see if they were aware of this.
2--Speak to the managers and/or the sellers at the farmer's market.
3--Stop buying there or from specific sellers there.
4--Request info., preferably in writing, that the seller is all organic--they may have a letter or other doc from the government or from an organic grower's association confirming this.
5--There are organizations and associations, of growers and such, (whose names I can't remember now) who can tell you who in your area is an organic or certified organic grower or whose fields are in the process of being converted to organic.

Be relieved that they were doing something to provide clean food, free of worms and pesticides.
There's a reason why we use pesticides, you know. Because the risk of dying from bugs in the food is greater than the risk of eating a little pesticide.
