at what month should babies be able to sleep through the night?

Babies are very different.
There is no certain age.
Three months is about as soon as you can expect all night sleep on a regular basis. But if it doesn't happen by then, it does not mean something is wrong.
A warm bath just before the last feeding (10 p.m. or whenever) might help baby relax and sleep longer.

It really varies. My older daughter was sleeping 6-7 hours straight at 6 months and gradually slept longer and longer. I think she was sleeping all the way through the night (10-11 hours) right around a year.

My younger daughter is now 21 months old, and she has slept 8 hours straight exactly once. Most nights, she still wakes 1-2 times.

I have friends whose kids have slept 5-7 hours straight practically from the beginning and 12 hours straight starting at 2-4 months. I have other friends whose 3-4 year-olds are still up at least once a night.

There's a wide range of what's normal for a particular child.

Every baby is different. My baby started sleeping through the night at around 2 weeks! And to this day sleeps all night!

All three of mine slept through the night from the day they came home from the hospital. The only problems I had was when they were teething, they woke up a couple times a night. All babies are different. I've seen some friends that have 5 yr olds that still wake up crying at night.

Every baby is different, so you can't put an age on it. Sometimes it happes early, like a couple of weeks old, but more often it's in the 2nd half of the first year. My first slept through the night around 15 months I think. That is still totally normal!

To all those people out there bragging that their children slept from about two weeks or three months or even straight from hospital, I say 'I'm jealous'. My daughter will be 16months old on Sunday and she still doesn't sleep through the night. But I understand that all children are different. So, whatever answers you get here, remember that you shouldn't compare your child to those, or get stressed that your child doesn't seem to be sleeping through as quickly as other children have.

my son, who is two months old, has slept from about 10 p.m. to 5:30 or 6 a.m. since the day he was born, my older two, one was about five months and the other was about three months before they slept through the night. My sister's son is five months now and still does not sleep through the night, she says on average he wakes at least five times. Each baby is different, best of luck to you.

It's normal for a child to continue to wake at night for the entire first year.

I would absolutely not expect them to sleep through in the first 6 mos because they are growing SO FAST then and working hard to double their birthweight and really NEED to feed around the clock.
