I'm not a lawyer, but as a social worker, and usually part of this process when children are involved, I am going to need more information regarding the situation you are in. I cannot just give you information for you to use as a guide when I don't know the facts. Each case is different and it's handled differently. If the other spouse isn't contesting custody, then you'll get to keep the children. If he/she is, being awarded placement isn't as simple as wanting to keep them and therefore you get to. There are evaluations done on both parents, interviews with the children by the guardian adlitem and social worker, and then each worker involved, will write their own recommendation for the judge, that suits the best interests of the child. It's a long process and if you feel that you aren't going to need help, I'd advise you get yourself an attorney immediately.
