As long as you make sure your breastmilk is the most your baby take then it will get the best even if you occasionally give formula. Make sure your milk supply is well established which happens when you only breastfeed without bottles or anything for the first 6-8 wks of life..after that you should be fine..but only after that, don't start giving bottles right away because that's what a lot of women do and then they say that they didn't have enough milk. Of course you didn't, you didn't take the time to make it fool..lol

I think that doing both is a good idea, as long as you don't give formula too often that you lose your milk supply. It can give you a little bit of freedom if your feeling a little over whelmed, than your not attached to baby for a whole 24 hrs, maybe dad can get in the the feedings as well as this is something he may feel left out of .

It's not only ok, but it's a good idea.
Your baby needs to be familiar with the bottle in case you can't feed her for some reason. And you need to know what formula she or he is ok with for the same reason.
You can express breast milk and freeze it for a couple of days if you prefer that she not have formula at all.

You get the greatest benefits from exclusive breastfeeding, but EVERY DROP of breastmilk is a benefit, even if you do choose to supplement. Many moms do combine breastmilk and formula successfully.

EDITED TO ADD:
Babies don't "need to be familar" with a bottle unless you WANT them to be. Two of my three never took bottles and it was never a problem.

It is, so long as it doesn't bother the baby. Sometimes, when a baby is given a bottle it either forgets how to breast feed or it cannot use the bottle. Talk to you ob-gyn or your baby's pediatrician about it.
