Well, I posted before and asked if anyone else has had a big baby, had a nice response. Now...I have a fetus weight question. I am now 34 weeks pregnant and had an ultrasound today. My baby weighs 6 lbs 3 oz +/- 16 oz. What do you think about this? I still have 6 weeks to go. So, I am looking at a 10-11 lb baby....

You are probably going to have a bigger baby. The condition is called Macrosomia. Can I suggest some advice. Studies have shown that women who have large babies often get diabetes. Large babies are a warning sign for this. I am sure you are in good health, but make sure you watch your diet, don't over do starches, and exercise, with some light weight lifting. This advice only comes as a recommendation to maybe prevent something that could happen in your future. I certainly hope not, and I hope you and future basketball player or super model are healthy, and stay that way. Good luck.

yes I have had a big baby my son now almost 16 was 10 lbs but the easiest to deliver I was feeling amazing after giving birth to him I could have gone home. I have had 5 babies the smallest was 7 lbs 14 oz and like I said 10 lbs. it depends on how much the baby will gain in the last four weeks but you are prob right about expecting to have a big baby. I would get some large cloths as well. As my 10 lb baby had to come home in a hospital gown as his cloths did not fit him I think I had to get 0s I had 000s at the time.

Hey there! Determining the weight via ultrasound, is not always accurate. There can be a 2 lb difference (in either direction)--so using ultrasound to predict weight is not reliable--it only gives the Doctors an "indication" of what "might" be.

I know a couple of people who were told they were having a big baby . Most recently my Sister in law..they said her baby boy was gonna be @...8lbs...(via ultrasound)--He weighed 6 lbs, 10 oz!

P.S. You can do searches on Ultrasound and predicting weight with Ultrasound--on Internet..to learn more!

Well, how do they know if the baby really weighs 6 pounds right now? I was told a few days before my baby was born that she was going to be a nice average size baby, about 7 pounds. She came out weighing 9 pounds 4 ounces. If they are sure that you are going to have a big baby, ask to be induced at 37 weeks, I think that is the earliest they will induce you.

I think baby weights by ultrasound are only guesstimates. Are you afraid of the baby getting too big? I had 9 and 10 pound babies and I think they were way healthier than those that are much smaller. What about family history? How big are the babies in your family? Don't worry, relax, this is a natural process. Worry later, when their teens.

Yes sounds like a big baby to have 6 weeks to go. What your baby weighs right now, is what both my children were born at.

Big babies are great. My babies both slept through the night by 1 month and the doctor said that was because they were the size of a three month old and at three months the average baby starts sleeping through the night. Mine were both over 10 pounds at birth.

I was just wondering if there is gestational diabetes or a chance that the due date might be off? Maybe it just runs in you or the child's father's blood line to have big babies? Either way Congrats. Looks like you must be doing everything right to have such a big strong baby already!
