It could be a number of issues... but the autorestart is a feature of windows xp instead of going to the "blue screen of death" BSOD.

Once issue that you can check is the cooling systems for your computer. Open the case and start the computer verify that all fans are operating. Leave the case open (to let more air in) if the computer runs without the periodic restarts then heat is most likely the issue. You should look into adding additional case fans to move more air through the machine.

If the problem isn't fix, turn of the auto restart feature to see if the resulting error screen (instead of the autorestart) give you some idea (through an error message) of what hardware/software issue is leading to the crashes. Here are the steps for that...

1. From the desktop right click on My Computer.
2. Click the Properties option.
3. In the System Properties window click the Advanced tab.
4. In Advanced click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery.
5. In the Startup and Recovery window uncheck the Automatically restart check box.
6. Click Ok.

First try re-seating the cabling from your hard drive to the motherboard. This may fix it.
