Probably the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. It could also be because of tight wrist watch or tight wrist bands, or continued pressure against the table while typing. Try looking into these aspects and relieve inadvertent pressure if there is any. Take multivitamins for 10 days and avoid alcohol, you may find some relief. If there is no relief, try finding if you have rheumatoid arthritis, which can cause Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, which shall require surgical management.

I have the same thing, when it's severe it results in complete numbness in the thumbs, index and middle fingers. It's caused (in me) by trapped nerves at the back of my neck between the 6th and 7th vertebrae (I think). I have had it treated effectively with Cranial Sacral Therapy which gentrly re-aligns the vertabrae and the problem disappears for several months before needing a top-up.
Check out http://www.craniosacral.co.uk/ for a practitioner in your area.
Your doctor can refer you for tests which measure nerve transmission to confirm the diagnosis (or not), it may be treatable by surgery but it isn't risk free. Try gentle manipulation first. There may be a problem with your posture that needs to be corrected. Chronic stress resulting in tense neck and shoulder muscles can make it worse.I think it would be very unusual if it is a circualtion problem caused by clogged arteries as this only usually occurs in the legs. Of course we are all unique so it might be something different with you, but getting your neck professionally re-aligned is painless and can't do any harm. It costs about £30 ~ 40. If you can't find a CS therapist, you could try Chiropractic and for long term posture correction try Alexander Technique. Another thing I've found wonderfully helpful, believe it or not, was to change my shoes. I started wearing MBTs (Masai Barefoot Technology) trainers which have radiused soles and no heel. They are amazing and help me walk with a much more erect posture and with my eyes on the horizon not the pavement six feet in front of me. Check http://www.mbt-uk.com for more info. I got mine on eBay for £45.
On the psychosomatic level it may be useful to look at areas of your life where you are 'losing your grip', or something that you 'can't handle'. I know it sounds weird but often the body talks to us in it's own language. Good luck.

See a doctor or nurse . Sounds like a trapped nerve or it could be an industrial injury . Then again you may have been for accupuncture and forgotten to take out the pins.
