If a toddler or a young child is overweight than there is a great chance they will be overweight when they become adults. I think many overweight adults today have been overweight as a child, too. Why do their parents spoil them and feed them a lot of sugary and fatty foods? Is it because they don't want to hear the kid crying and screaming, so they think that if they stuff them with a lot of food, they will shut up?

Maybe because some parents are too busy to cook for them a healthy meal or because they give everything to the kids so they....shut up!!! It's true

I know!!! You are totally right! I couldn't agree more. In a way, it's child abuse. Seriously, you feed your kid this stuff to make them happy, and then don't stop them from eating too much...then they become obese and can't do anything. I'm sure being obese hurts a lot, emotionally and physically. I've seen how kids treat "fat" kids, it's cruel and horrible. They can't play sports as easily either, and in the long run it kills them sooner. It's abuse because you're letting them stay that way, stay so unhealthy. I'd rather have a kid crying because they want candy, than a kid crying because everyone stares and they don't look like the other kids.

Good question...I feel better! hehe

Because our families are broken up now. A lot of kids are living in single parent homes where the parent isnt there as much as they should be. There are things simple enough for a child to make and they usually arent good for them. Plus a lot of american families are pretty poor and buying healthy iteams is much more expensive than the quick fattening iteams.

Because it is more convent for parents to feed their children junk food and easy to prepare meals especially if they work all the time

Laziness. People don't cook anymore and just go to the fast food place, or throw some boxed, canned or frozen crap on a plate and eat it. If we cooked REAL food and had meals that were nutritious, obesity would become extinct.

I don't believe it's a fact of feeding them to shut them up alot of parents don't think they're harming their children so they think it's okay. They don't know because they weren't taught and it's just been passed down.

I don't know...maybe it's because food makes them feel better so they give it to their kids to make them feel better.

I used to fed my children junk food but not anymore. I've learned proper nutrition from my husband. It's took a while to get my kids used to eating healthy food but they're better off.

I dont know I have often wondered that myself, all I know is it makes me sick. We as parents are supposed to protect our children and try to make their lives easier, making them overweight is definitely not an easy way to grow up.

first of all i'd like to point out that not every parent does this. but we americans tend to be an over-indulgent society. if it feels good do it. we are a culture of quick fixes and if that candy bar is gonna keep junior quiet then let him have it.
