The US is really a Republic, and not a true democracy. A true democracy is not a representative government. We would have to vote on every issue and not have a congress to make laws. We are more of a democracy then any other country, and certainly more than we were in 1900 when women could not vote.

It really depends on your definition of democracy and what it is. Democracy is suppose to mean "rule by the People" but it doesn't appear that people make many decisions until it comes time to vote. That is because there is a Representative Democracy in place. THis is when you elect representatives that are voted on based on their qualifications. You vote on their credentials to basically make decisions for you. This can be contrasted with a representative who would be forced to make decisions on the constituents that they represent regardless with what they believe in. There is also direct democracy in which referendum's can be held to force the peopel to choose and the decision would be legally binding. Then there is deliberative democracy in which as many people as possible would sit down and work through problems and try to find a solution for everyone. It isn't very practical in a big country but it is still a form.
It appears that America is mostly a representative democracy. You can say that it works well as that because once elected it doesn't seem like the public input matters until the next election. If you want to know if this is a representative of "rule by the People" I don't really think so. Changing to some of the other forms can be long and extensive though because it means that you have to rewrite alot of laws

Honestly, I don't think so. It's a fun word for the President to throw around when discussing the spreading of "democracy" but other than that I think we fall short. The President is supposed to be voted in by the people, right? Well, think about this. There may be many candidates for President, but we all know (or at least have heard) that it costs a LOT of money to run for president. The average American could never get their hands on that sort of cash, or risk loosing it if they didn't win. Well, the candidates who can afford it are "loaned" (yeah right) money to get their campagin going by a corrupt governement or people with ties to the government. They have already chosen who is going to win the Presidency before we even know officially who the candidates are. If you look in back in history you'll find how many relatives of the Bush family have been nominated. You'll also see connections with people in Government with presidential nominees. Think back to the Gore/Bush election. The people voted, the numbers said Gore. Well that just wasn't working for the Bush's so a "recount" was established. Shockingly enough, the count was wrong!!! It turns out that Florida, whos govenor just happens to be George W. Bush's brother (amazing coincidence), had a MISCOUNT! Oh my goodness! I didn't see that one comming! Well, look who's our President now. HUMMMMMM. Bush isn't trying to spread "democracy" it just sounds good to the American public when he's asked questions about the Middle East. The opportunity for a decent Presidential candidate is zero. If you are an average Joe it doesn't matter how much money you raise toward your campaign, someone will always contribute more than you and you'll be knocked out before you even knew you were in. The truth of the matter is, if you aint part of the "club" you aint getting in!

It has a "true" democracy, in the sense that the ultimate power over political decisions is held by the people.
But it does not have a "pure" democracy, because the normal government structure is one a representative republic, rather than direct voting on every issue.
However, many states do come closer to allowing pure democracy in action, through voter initiatives. The voters can draft a proposed law, put it on the ballot, and have all in-state voters decide on the result. And in some states, those voter-initiated laws cannot be overridden by later legislative action.

We have a Representative Democracy. In a True Democracy the people vote on every piece of legislation that is sent up for approval.

the U. S. isn't and became on no account meant to be a "democracy". In a democracy you may vote on very regulation it somewhat is proposed. In an meant "Constitutional Republic", the persons decide on representatives to enact regulations on their behalf, interior the bounds of a shape. Given the form of regulations that have been enacted in direct violation of the Constitutoin of the U. S., we've lost that form of government and have devolved right into a socialist republic and are sinking nearer to Marxism.

NO WAY
The money that is put into electing candidates is the reason why not.
Buying votes is in its self corrupt.
So all those that are in office have been put there by the wealthy and the people have no way of putting this right
It as been going on to long and is to entrenched.
This in turn will eventually end with a repeat of the up risings that have happened in the past.
Keeping the people in the dark and feeding them proper gander as that effect on the masses.
History will be repeated if you do not learn from it.

NO! many will try to justify ways that intend to be but their are not taken close enough look at the deception that applies to everything going on! Voting is complete sham merely a dog and pony show! Candidate's running for meaningful position will be yes men or women planted by the corporations. When is the last time you saw a working poor or homeless person get any major nomination.

No we don't! It doesn't matter what the regular ppl say, whether it be local or state or national govornment, some ****** in power will play God & think they have to decide our fate for us!
Look what deregulation did for the phone & Light companies!Gave them the power to jack our bills sky high, after promising that things would get cheaper!
There is more merging going on here than at a bi-sexual orgy!& everytime someone merges, our bills go up & our accounts get lost or payment histories get lost! I know! I am fighting with so many cell phone companies now,I look like Pollynopay!Which is a lie! I just quit OVER paying!
