La Dainian is number 1 now (I'm a Chargers fan); but look out for Reggie "Lightning" Bush (I'm a USC Alum)!
With a healthy Drew Brees now in New Orleans (*sob*), the passing attack will open up the running game for Mr. Bush.
As far as quarterbacks, Drew Brees is just under Peyton Manning and a healthy Carson Palmer. I would take him in my fantasy league.

I would defiantly say he is one of the best in the league. Larry, Shaun and La Dainian are the top three. Then there is a pier, of other running backs,
4 Tiki Barber NYG 4
5 Steven Jackson STL 7
6 Ronnie Brown MIA 8
7 LaMont Jordan OAK 3
8 Rudi Johnson CIN 5
9 Cadillac Williams TB 4
10 Edgerrin James ARI 9
11 Clinton Portis
BUT, who knows, every year is different, some players get hurt, some players have a bad year, that is what makes Fantasy Football fun.

Larry Johnson is a great runner, a little elusive, but mostly just smart and makes good moves.
Shaun Alexander is one of the best, if not THE best "cut-back" runner in the league, he's truly amazing indeed.
Tiki Barber is simply hard to tackle, mix that with his veteren knowledge and hes complete.
Clinton Portis can do it all but I don't see him as a guy that will even have the most rushing yards in the league for a given season, he just doesn't seem like that high of a calibur runner.
LaDanian Tomlinson now...he's multi talented. He's super fast, very agile, and is simply astounding to watch play. He can throw, rush, and catch, whatever you need him to do. He's probably my favorite running back outside of my team.
----- Others to watch out for -----
Rudi Johnson is kind of under the radar right now but he's still quite talented.
Julius Jones just needs to be the sole starter on the Cowboys and he'll have a great season
DeShaun Foster needs to stay healthy and he'd have a 1700 yard season, especially with how much Carolina relies on the run.
Carnell "Cadillac" Williams rookie of the year honors? He'll do fine again this season also
Warrick Dunn is getting old, but you can't argue with skill, but it helps that he's now the sole rusher in Atlanta and on a rush heavy team.
Edgerrin James is down here because of the team he's on now, he wont have as much of a highlight this season, so I downgrade him. He's got the skills obviously, but if he doesn't stay consistent, he might lose a little.
Reggie Bush, Joseph Addai, Lawrence Maroney, DeAngelo Williams, and Maurice Drew-Jones....running backs of the future, we'll see soon enough how these guys stack up against them, but for now....LT is the man. He's a Fantasy stud...I would take him within top 3 overall picks.

He's right up there, but the concensus feels that the order should be 1) Larry Johnson, 2) Shaun Alexander, 3) Ladainian Tomlinson. But if you're asking this question then you have bigger issues with your fantasy football team.

probably the best in the league. Shaun Alexander is competitive with him, but since Hasselbeck has a great passing game, and Philip Rivers is still young and starting out, I think Tomlinson will probably have the best season ever.

He's top three (with those other guys), but he's slid to 3rd best behind LJ and Shaun Alexander.
I personally think it's a crapshoot among these three as to who does best, because they are all missing something they had last year. (Shaun has no Hutchinson, LT has no Brees, LJ has no Roaf).
If you draft in the top 3, you MUST come away with one of these three.

He is the best all around running back in the game. At the start of the season, he will be facing a lot of eight man fronts because of Philip Rivers at QB can prove that he is a good QB.

There is no contest. As a complete back he dominates. Now in fantasy land I don't know or care.
