I know when I was a kid my friends & I would play dress up & then dance & sing to the Dirty Dancing soundtrack for the video camera. We have some really horrific home videos that my husband will hopefully NEVER see!! LOL Smores, popcorn, board games, etc. all sound like great ideas. I particuarlly like the person's idea of the spa - girls LOVE that stuff!!

Start with a snack they can make. Maybe sugar cookies they can decorate with icing, individual pizzas, or baked apples.

Buy some RIT dye, and rubberbands, ask the guests to bring somthing white or light colored to tie dye. After they're done, dry them in the dryer and let them sign and decorate eachother's with permanent markers.

Do somthing active to wear them out. Rent a salsa dance, or cheerleading video they can try. Play tag in the back yard. Hula hoop contests are a big hit. Let them dance to their favorite music, don't forget to limbo.

Later, hold a pajama fashion show. Make a runway out of sleeping bags, and have the girls watch eachother strut their stuff. Really encourage cheering and oohing and ahhing for eachother. Take digital pictures and email them to each girl.

Show them how wintergreen lifesavers spark when you chew them in the dark.

Pop in a movie(ask the fussiest mom to bring the movie so she can't complain about the content), and let them know what time you expect them to be quiet. Be firm about this. If you let a little noise slide after your lights out time, they'll walk all over you.

Absolutely, how bout a night water balloon fight in the yard? Or even a Smores making fest... 12 year old girls dont necessarily like parents around them much on these events so give her space as well...

Good luck and hope this helps!

Balloon flip-flops! A make-n-take to remember the party. You buy cheap (think dollar-store) flip-flops and "water-balloon" type balloons (the small, brightly colored ones). Each guest gets a pair of Flip-flops and about 25-30 balloons to tie on. They are soooo cute. And the girls can choose their colors and chat or watch a movie (Barbie Diaries was a hit) while they tie 'em on.

Make your own jewelry. Give the girls some beads and string and clasps from your local craft store and they'll have both an activity and a souvenir.

hmmm it has been my experience that 11 year old girls like to gossip and eat and paint nails....so maybe some kind of "spa" like experience...I know at Walmart you can get really small bottles of nail polish quite cheaply.
