there are many sites as such to upload big files

www.streamload.com
provides online storage of huge 25 gb for free
but a problem with it is that u r only allowed to download 100 mb per month so not much worthed if u r planning for big time upload for pc backup
now it comes back to box.net free 1 gb and pay if u want for more storage

if u have patience and don't need huge online storage u might wanna wait few days for AOL's new online storage coming soon.
AOL (this blog's parent company) announced today that starting next month it will offer 5GB of free online storage for all web users. The free online storage will start in September, and will be powered by Xdrive, a service acquired by AOL late last year. There will be no charges for uploading or downloading documents and files, and users will be able to access their files at www.xdrive.com.

The service will allow users to store digital photos, videos, and important documents in Xdrive's secure data facility, and will include:

5 Gigabytes (GB) secure online storage at no cost
No charges for uploads or downloads
Ability to store any type of file, including photos, music, video, and documents
Drag and drop interface between online storage and hard drive
Access to files through any Web-connected PC or mobile device
Permission-based file and folder sharing
Online collaboration via shared files
Scheduled automatic backups
Automatic upload of e-mail attachments from providers including AOL Mail, AIM Mail, or any non-AOL POP3 or IMAP-compatible mail providers
Full-resolution photo storage
Easy access to AOL Pictures for professional prints and photo gifts
The free Xdrive service will begin in early September and will be available to anyone with an AOL account or AIM screenname.

in other cases u might wanna use emails which provide small storages eg inbox mail, goowy mail, yahoo briefcase etc.

here are some more links to more online storage websites

http://www.netmass.com/olb_download.html...
http://www.box.net/?gclid=ckaayotq9oycfs...
https://www.gotomypc.com/tr/gg_can/onlin...
http://www.datasolutions.com/?gclid=cmjk...
http://mediamax.streamload.com/......

however there a little problem
such sites might cost you to upload big files like 1 gb.
and i dont think so u'll pay for one use only.
so i'd say theres another way to overcome that problem too
try saving that file as a torrent on a random torrent site
(which will also compres the file) and then you can download the file by yourself using a torrent client.

or
see i have alternates for all :D

you can ask her to use a p2p file share software and put that file in share folder then you can use her ip address connect to her ip and download that perticular file. you may use limewire, morpheus, bearshare, ares etc... just search for them on google.

hope that helps
good luck ;)

Try Google email. They give more than a gig in available space.
if you don't have an email id there let me know I can send you the invite.

secondly, the best solution to these kinds of problems with large files is to download a file splitter and send each piece individually via email and then someone could download them and use the same file split program to join them again.

Here is the link to similar such programs:

Hope this helps.

Here's the best idea...

In case you're not familiar with the world of TORRENTS, that would be by far the best way to send the file, or any file for that matter.

If you have any questions on how to use torrents, email me. ryan78230@yahoo.com

Burn it on a DVD and mail it. Probably faster than finding a space to upload it.

i don't think that there are any free hosts that accept files that big. your best bet is probably to run an ftp server on your computer so your friend can download it directly.

try gmail.com i.e. sender and receiver both have gmail accounts!, and if that doesn't work, try www.torrentspy.com
