OK, I'll give you a couple hints to help things click together---but they WON'T make any sense unless you _read the book_; it's really an enjoyable one, honest!
It's a small Southern town, set back quite some years ago (gee, I forgot....you'll have to look it up). Scout is on a first-name basis (that's unusual) with her lawyer dad, Atticus, who's pretty well respected in the area. Atticus gets assigned to a really controversial criminal case, which he's not crazy about. Discuss. (Lawyers usually LIKE high-profile cases.)
What's with Tom Robinson? He seems pretty respectable, all things considered....Scout seems to feel he's pretty much OK,....... but you can't really tell about those people....or can you?
Why is Mayella acting the way she does? Is she in love, or what? Is she have _anything at all_ in common with Scout?

By the way, don't trust movies. Hollywood has been known to change books all out of recognition when they make film adaptations. So read the book!

Good luck on the assignment.

I never did understand that book or movie. Why would anyone want to kill an innocent, cute little bird? Did the bird have a contegeous disease, did the bird do something to him, did the llittle bird "mock" him?? Can someone please give me a clue as to the motive of this crime? It is a "crime", isn't it?

Nope. Go read the book. If you read it, you'll be able to answer this yourself. It isn't difficult, and reading that book will be one of the best things you ever do for yourself.
