When you save something to your computer, it is saved to the hard drive. The hard drive saves things magnetically (flips between 1 and 0). So once you shut down your computer, electricity stops flowing to the hard drive and it keeps the data the same until the computer is rebooted.
So short answer without all the technical details ;)...is that once you go: Start -> Turn off Computer....and it powers off you can unplug it as many times as you need to ;).

No it is no different than turning it off. The only way you lose all your documents is if your hard drive crashed and you have no back up. Or if you upgrade your operating system and you didn't back anything up. There are a few others but unplugging your computer from the wall will not crash your hard drive.

No, You shouldn't lose any information. Before you unplug your computer, Make sure that it is properly shut down and that all the power is off (Monitor, Speakers, etc.)
Hope it all works out.

No of course not. Your computer has a brain. It stores all of your info. It will not loose it. I mean shutting down your pc is like unplugging it. Commong sense.
A computer isn't like Tivo. Where you have to reprogram everythign according to your area code. hahaha

As long as you properly shutdown your computer before you unplug it, no information will be lost when you unplug it.
