I think it's pretty simple
(my interpretation:)
He's in dating a girl, who loves another man, and he follows her and witnesses her with this man, and he decides he's not going to let it bother him because he always looks on the brightside.

None of these are right. my interpretation is......
it's paranoia, he's not sure if she is cheating - "and it's all in my head"
he's not really sure if it's serious (even though he loves the girl) - "it was only a kiss"
underneath he's an optimist, and just wants to hear, or see some good news - "open up my eager eyes"
guy's in love with girl, they're kinda together but not 'officially', he's suspects she might be cheating and just wants to know

the full meaning is that this song is based on the film moulin rouge, the guy in the song falls for a prostitute and that is the full extent of the meaning of the song
