I've never been to London so I'd like to know the best places to visit, without spending a fortune. I don't want to end up in the "dodgy" end of town. (I got the word "dodgy" from "love actually"). Yes, I'm geek. Any suggestions? And is London absolutely cool to visit during the holidays?

London will be absolutely crowed whenever you go there.

Most tourist attractions are very expensive, but a lot can be seen without paying if you if all you want to do is see 'the sights'. What to suggest depends on your tastes.

I'd suggest getting a one-day travelcard, this will entitle you to unlimited travel on the buses and underground. Just hop on a bus and hop off again when you see something that interests you.

If it is wet, most of the Museums & Art Gallerys are 'free' to enter, but you are encouraged to make a donation.

(n.b. The 'dodgy bit' is in some of the side streets off Shaftsbury Avenue [London's equivalent to Broadway], but stick to the main streets and you'll be OK).

There's loads of sightseeing to do without spending a penny. See Tower Bridge, the Houses of Parliament, & Buckingham Palace.

Take a wander round the West End....Covent Garden has street performers every day of the week.

If it's sunny there's lots of nice parks....go to St James' or Hyde Park.

Also take a wander round Camden Lock Market.

If you like art The National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery are free.

There's plenty to keep you amused without spending loads of money....I live in London and never go anywhere that I have to pay to get in, but there's always places to go and things to do.

And by the way, I use the word 'dodgy' all the time!

I was Born and Bred in the outskirts of London,Took early Retirement in 1992 and Moved in 1995 to what I now call Heaven.
I am near the Sea, have plenty of Scenic Views, all the Corn,Wheat,Rapeseed Farms plus Vegetable Farms, Chicken, Turkey,Pigs, Cattle,Sheep Farms and even a Llama Farm.
Lots of Beautiful Greenery, Lot's of Historic Buildings......yes I am now living in Heaven.
I wouldn't go back to London if I was given 10 Million Pounds,not even to go Shopping or to receive an Honour from the Queen{Even she is Moving out to Windsor}

Property is too expensive,as so is anything you buy,be it Theatre Tickets,Days out, Fares on London Transport, Food in Restaurants, even going to the Toilet, Food Shopping, just everything.
No I am staying where I am, in Suffolk.

It doesn't belong to us anymore I'm afraid.

The Generator and the Bryanston Court Hotels are not that expensive. There are also lots of places such as museums, markets, parks where you don't have to pay.
