The Internet is the 'New Pub'. Apart from the obvious differences between the pub and the Internet, the one big difference is that a girl needed be afraid of getting a date rape drug slipped into her drink.
As long as folk are aware of the dangers the Internet can hold, there is nothing wrong and I think it will become increasing acceptable to do your courting (old fashioned word) on line.

Well I don't know if it is considered socially acceptable but..that is where me and my man met and we moved in together the second day and we have been together for a year and 8 months and he is the best thing that has ever happened to me. My family totall loves him. According to his whole family I am the best thing that has ever happened to him. We will be married and everyone totally approves. When it all comes down to it ..it is what you feel for one another not what everyone else may think. If you are totally happy then that's what really matters. If they all accept and love you then they will accept and respect your decision. Good Luck to the both of you!

It's becoming more and more common. In this day and age, things like this are viewed more as a personal choice rather than a reason to judge someone. From this point of view, I would say it is socially acceptable. But there will always be "conservative" people who feel it's bad, weird, strange, you name it.
I met my fiancé on an online dating site. This is where people meet people nowadays.

I don't know about that but I do know it is unwise to base a marriage on anything so ridiculous. Who cares? If you met someone that you should really marry and build a life with why on earth would you even think about the social acceptability of how you were introduced???? I think if you are that hung up on this stuff being married to you wouldn't be much fun.

If you meet someone on the internet and all things work for you both does it really matter what society thinks? If you are in love then there is nothing wrong with it and no one even needs to know where you met

Of course! There are many good people out there now finding love online. I met my true love 5 years ago online and we are blissfully happy and getting married next year. Go for it! This is the 21st century! And remember the most important quality in a person is good mental health....if they have that, everything else will fall into place!

Who cares? Honestly. All that matters is what YOU think. If you don't care, nobody else will either. I met my husband through a personal add I'd put in my college newspaper, and I'd done it mostly because I was bored with my lot in life and wanted to see what I'd get that way. And back then, it wasn't socially very acceptable. Only "desperate" people did that.
Best thing I ever did. ;)

If you been knowing the person for a while, been around them more than once, and if you know they are clean! You cant just marry someone because they seam like they are good. If you have gotten to know the person and have been face to face with them more than just a couple of times, then it would be acceptable.

It doesn't matter where you first meet someone. What matters is what comes after you meet and spend real time together.
