Hello,

Looking at facts, buying a Skoda instead of a VW is a good choice, since you can buy a Skoda for cheaper than any of the VW models. Or you get more equipment for the same money. VW makes VW models competitive by installing less powerful engines to Skoda models, but they are more economical. VWs are overprized by default, you just pay for the badge.

Don't be fooled by the traditions of Fiat, for they have terrible reliability and 'low-cost' solutions that make the Fiats vulnerable (eg. Fiat Stilos are infamous because of their ECU failures). There's a german saying of what FIAT means: "Fehler in alle Teilen", or "Error in every part" ;D
By the way, speaking of traditions, Skoda is the fifth oldest car manufacturer in the world...

My piece of advice: when you are able to get a Skoda, get one :D
(for economy, try a Skoda Fabia, for luxury try a Skoda Suberb if you can afford, for performance, get a Skoda Octavia RS)

Regards

VW. Skoda is cheap and eastern EU, new to international market. Fiat has great history, but badly exported to US, hence expensive for upkeep.

Definitely Volkswagen, because of their focus on safety. And I absolutely love their new ad campaign where the people are driving along chatting and then get shocked by an unexpected crash - "Safe Happens" I think is the name of the ad campaign. I think they really show people how impossible it is to "expect" or "brace yourself" for a car accident, and thus how crucial it is to have a well-built car and seat belts, air bags, etc.
