I am a nutritionist
you can begin taking a regular multivitamin (NOT a prenatal until you have a confirmed pregnancy)
it will not actually do much for the baby (unless you eat no bread products which are fortified with folic acid and eat no vegetables) but it will prevent you from developing nutrient deficiencies

Multi vitamins contain folic acid which does not aid in conception but will prevent certain birth defects (spina bifida being one of them) which form during the first few days of the embryo's life.

Prenatal or multivitamins don't necessarily help you to conceive any faster, but the build-up of nutrients (particularly folic acid) in your body promotes healthy development of baby once you do get pregnant.

my gyno told me that you should take prenatal vitamins all the time even if you aren't pregnant, so just in case you do get pregnant then you will have everything you need...they have a lot of folic acid in them which helps prevent birth defects, and if you have a lot of folic acid then its easier to get pregnant.

After talking with my Ob/Gyn she suggested the Target brand because it is what she would prescribe me. They are about $7.00 for 200 pills. She suggests that you get on them before conception.
