I was in San Diego from Sunday until yesterday and went to Mission Beach. I was in the ocean from about 11am - 3pm. I know this is the worst time to be outside due to the fact that the sun is right overhead and the rays are strongest. Well I didn't notice anything until I started to drive back home (To Phoenix). I was really really sore, and I stopped at a gas station and my skin is BRIGHT RED. I can't lay down because it hurts so bad. My arms and shoulders, back, and chest/breast area is severely burnt, red, sore, and swollen. This morning I noticed blisters were forming on my shoulders and I can't touch myself at all without screaming in pain. I am in so much pain right now, but I have no idea what to do about it? Please don't lecture me about sunblock, I used sunblock earlier that morning, around 9am, but I have extremely fair skin. I am freezing all the time, and have had cold chills since I got back home. Is there anything I can do to help this? I can't sleep!

I have some of the aloe vera gel, but my skin is so sensitive to the touch right now that I can't apply the gel without crying.

What you really need to do is get in to see a doctor or just go up to an emergency room if you get a chance. They need to give you a prescription for a burn cream that has a sulfur product in it. I'm not really sure but you may be able to find a burn treatment over the counter. There is a spray called Lanacaine that will take care of the pain, but only temporarily. If you are going to look for something over the counter like a cream, you need to find something that contains sulfur. But I would highly recommend going to the doctor!

I have had a sunburn that bad once in my life and there was little to no relief. The best thing you can do is get an aloe Vera gel and keep applying it. On the spots that did not blister I used Vick's a few times. There is something about the menthol in it that seems to cool the skin temporarily.
Good Luck

I have been through the same thing when I went to Florida for a week, mind you it was my first trip to the ocean and I didnt feel the burn that I was getting. I came home and bought some aloe vera gel from Wal-mart and a spray called bactine. The bactine helps from getting infection from the blisters and also has lidacain in it to help with the pain. I hope this can help you some. I know the pain you are going through.

Sounds like you should see a doctor. Serious sunburns can cause sun poisoning or an allergic reaction to the sun. You should see a doctor especially if you are getting blisters and chills. I've gotten severely burned before so much that I had blisters and chills and I was vomiting. I had to go to the doctor. They gave me something for the pain and a cooling lotion.

Tylenol for the pain.

You can soak in medium/cool vinegar water, helps draw out burn - or aloe vera gel (keep in fridge - cool feels good!).

Glycerine will dry up the blisters almost immediately (can get from Pharmacy)

Be Blessed!

try pouring some viniger into a bowl and then putting wash clothes on your back. The viniger will take out the pain and the heat. This leaves you with a good tan to. Its and old secret i learned from my family. Then rub some aloe vera on your skin. Good luck!

First of all take a cool bath with apple cider vinegar in it a couple of cups. And sink down in the tub and soak so you can get it all over you, stinks but it does take the burn out. After you bathe in this rub, your gonna love this, Prepheration H all over your burn, this takes out the swelling and stinging thats what its made for. Good luck and try to be more careful in the future

Use Aloe Vera! I went to Hawaii and surfed the whole day and my back and arms were burn as red as they could get.
