One Hundred Years of Solitude

Most of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's works i have read are engaging on many different levels. Personally though, for someone who is passionate about how the "past" is remembered and imagined, GGM's prose and his masterful evocation of the "magical realism" throw light on historical conflicts and social tensions that characterize Colombian society in particular, and Latin America's Andean realities in general. That said, i too agree with most commentators herein by suggesting the "Cien Anos de Soledad" is GGM's most powerful, evocative, and polemical piece of literature. This work curiously and poignantly addresses issues of identity and power during Colombia's conflict-ridden development (or devolution for that matter) into a modern state. Other works of GGM worth reading are "El Relato de un Naufrago" and his most recent memoirs. Either way this author is a giant among authors, and ALL his work should certainly be taken seriously and read critically.

gabriel garcia marquez is a motherless, bastard, son of a *****. he is a personal friend of fidel kastro. he doesn' t care for all the crimes that fidel has comited. he is an accomplice of fidel.
In case somebody says that he/she doesn't care about his personal life, it doesn't work that way. If you read and liked : "mein kampf" you are supporting adolf
