What airplane food? On most airlines I've flown with lately there isn't any food - unless you want to buy peanuts or cookies!

It is mass produced in super large kitchens, made to be transported at the least cost with the least trouble and the most convenience. There you go.
Personally, I've never had a problem with airline food. I know some airlines are cutting back on the hot meals and going more towards boxed lunches ( sandwich, fruit, cookies, chips and a drink) which, on a not so long flight, I think is great. The hassle of a hot meal on a flight is a pain, if you have never had one. I had a lapfull of hot potato soup on an overseas flight once. NOT FUN. LOL Glad I had packed a bag with a change of clothes with me to carry on board, let me tell ya!!
But yeah, airline food is made to be fast, easy and good. Other than that, I don't have a problem with it. What iswrong with it ,in your book?

When travel I tend to eat lightly (some water and a cheese sandwich for example). I find that eating heavily over long flights causes exhaustion and dehydration, so I generally only eat airline sandwiches and occasionally peanuts.
Another theory is that they mass produce one meal for a day (there are a lot of passengers on a plane), so they can't ensure a very high quality meal. The one time I travelled in 1st class, I found the meals were better (this being fair).
Just don't ask for a meal and bring a sandwich and a bottle of water!
(Unless you are in there U.K where you have to buy it after the security).
Hope this answers your unspecific question. ;)

Deal? Yeah, right.

Airplane food and deal together in the same sentence!

Actually, there are some good ones here and there, but you will have to go to places like Singapore or Scandanavian Air to get the good stuff. The closest to "food" in an American airline (defintely not them) is maybe Alaska Air.
