For example, if the checkis for ten cents, you can write "Zero dollars and ------- 10/100" and make sure the decimal point is clearly showing on the check. You could also write "No dollars..." but that leaves it too open for forgery.

Writing A Check With Cents

Very carefully! so you do not OD (over draft). Just kidding..
If you are not paying fees for writing checks, go ahead and write the check as usual. Make sure, the amounts are clear, in cents, so there is no room for error. The banks are going to love that, since it costs money to process a check through the banking system.

Same way you would a regular check, cents sign instead of dollar. I once wrote a 34 cent check for a pen at a college bookstore.

I called Bank of Hawaii to ask. (My county check needed to be 50 cents.)
Bank said:
0.50 (IN Box)
Zero dollars and 50/100 (on the line)

on the line, write zero dollars and 04/100's, and in the amount box, as close as you can to the edge by the $, write 00.04
and on the "memo" line, write "exactly 4 cents"

like this:
zero dolars and 04/100's--------$[00.04]

memo___EXACTLY 4 CENTS

i know it sounds ridiculous, but i had to write a check one time for $00.00. no lie, that was the only way i could get those peole to clear my account and stop sending me statements.

I think 50 cents is the minimum. Anything less than that might now go through. But let me know! Why don't you try looking under the seat of your car first?

Don't know about the US but in the UK we can write cheques for 1p upwards and cheques don't cost. For convenience though, for small amounts, I just send postage stamps to the value required.
