Maybe because of the harmony in it or depending on the way it sounds, like sad music would make a person sad or Techno music makes some people want to dance, or mysterious music tells a person something mysterious or bad is about to happen. They usually use that in movies, mainly Disney animated movies.

In a nutshell, there is a corellation between peoples mood/emotion and rythym.

2 insights:

1) way way back when people picked cotton, one person would hollar to the rest of the group and they would all respond, it helped pass the time, but it also helped pace the workers, this is very early roots of music.

2) we, as humans, are comforted by a repetetive rythym and distrurbed by an atonal or non repetitive rythym. For example if you sing a childrens lulaby to yourself, you will likely find that the rythym just keeps repeating itself. Conversley if you listen to the background music to a (good) horror flick, you will find that the rythym never comes back to the starting point (it never repeats), this causes us to be disturbed. If you turn off the sound when watching a horror flick, it is nowhere near as frightening.

because peoples music stems from thier emotions and things that have happened in thier life. when you hear this you might assiciate it with a darkness or happiness in your own soul. music is basically the blueprints of the musicians soul. if you can read the blueprints they mean more to you than some story you can't understand. basically it's because music is solidified emotion put out from a medium(the instrament). so when your listining to a song you are really listening to the musicians inner thoughts and feelings. hope this helps, i know it's kinda hard to understand the way i put it but it's kinda hard to put into words.

Umm...Not sure really.

But since my Dad moved out of the house years and years ago, I always felt touched when i heard the music that he had listened to when living with us. It reminds me of everything, good and bad. It's like i can feel something in my heart. This may sound strange but it's true.
