Your brother and cousin are acting childish. Don't worry, that will pass. Get use to your glasses because everyone else will.

You know what? My heart goes out to you.

I've worn glasses for over 33 years and I started wearing them at school. The more you worry and are afraid, the worse the insults will hurt you. If you realise the jibes are not really about you and that you are just a convenient target, all of a sudden the insults lose all their power - they are just words. Unless someone throws a dictionary at you, the words themselves cannot actually hurt you..!

There is hope though. You will find that there is a limit to the cruel things that kids can say and kids get bored easily and give up when you don't react - this will seem like aaaaaaaaaaaaages but it's not really. Tell yourself, the insults are not about you, they are because you wear something that just makes you look a little different. Different makes them feel scared. Can you believe that? They are actually afraid that you have changed and they haven't and because they (and you) are young, they only way they can resolve this feeling, is to make fun of you.

When you are older, you will realise that everyone is different, mad, silly, stupid, cruel, funny, nasty but sometimes people can be caring, loving and quite nice too. It's actually those differences that make you what you are.

When they think you are not watching and someone gives your brother a wedgie, remember the colour of his underpants and later on when he's forgotten, tell him the optician gave you "20-20" vision with "astigmatic" lenses and you can see that he's got (whatever colour it was) undies on. That should keep him quiet for a while... !!

Good luck. Whatever you do, don't stop wearing specs, they are your eyes and they are the second most amaaaaaazing part of the human body next to the brain. An eyeball actually contains over 2 million working parts and in a normal life will see over 24 million colourful images for you. Your eyes work 24 hours a day even when you are sleeping, every second of your whole life - Wow!!

Your brother and cousin don't understand the fact that your eyes do not work as well as theirs. Here's something that may help educate them. Take a clear glass and fill it about two-thirds full with water. Smudge the side of the glass. Ask them to look through the smudge and if they can see clearly? If not, that's how your eyes are without the glasses. Now look through the water on a clean portion of the glass...you can see clearly. Eyes WITH glasses. If people at school make fun of you, tell them you're sorry they feel that way, and you need glasses to see better. See if that helps.

I know it is hard but you can't worry about what other people say or think. Be yourself which I am sure is a beautiful person. Brothers and family members always tease more than other people do!!! So take what they are saying with a grain of salt, worth nothing. Have you received compliments about your glasses? If so, keep that in mind. 'Sides, who cares what brothers think? :) I have 2 and one of them when we were growing up was always calling me names!! (The other was just about 7 years younger than me so there wasn't really much going on like that, when I was 17 he was only 10) Carry yourself with dignity and confidence, whether you feel those two things at this time may cause you to falter, don't, you will begin to carry yourself like that naturally! Good luck!

My brother used to make fun of me when my face was broke out (and I had glasses too!!) but when it was his turn to get pimples, he got TWICE as many. Turns out, what comes around, goes around. I don't know how old you are, but I am pretty sure that brothers and cousins are going to make fun of you the most, compared to the kids at school. If anyone does make fun of you, just stand up straight and remember its whats inside that counts. You are beautiful, glasses or not!!
P.S. I am 30 years old, went back to glasses after wearing contacts for many years and now my cousins are complimenting me on my appearance!!!

Get contacts...or just ignore what they say. Brothers and cousins are mean. Lots of people are mean and there is no reason behind it. They make fun of you because they know it gets to you. So keep your chin up and don't worry about it. I'm sure you look fine with your glasses.

I wore glasses up until the age of 15 then I got contacts. Glasses make a person look smart and sophistcated. Don't worry about your family, they are ribbing you cause its something different. I am sure they will stop soon, they are immature kids. I bet you look really cool with the glasses on!

Ignore those silly boys! Just wear your glasses and be happy.

Someday THEY might have to wear glasses and YOU will have lots of payback to dish out!

You'll be fine. I started wearing glasses in the fifth grade and nobody made fun of me, no matter how many different frames I wore over the years, nobody ever teased me.
You'll be fine. Just flash friendly smiles to your friends on the first day of school.

your cousin and brother are doing it because they know it bothers you and if anyone at school says any thing just act like it doesnt bother you it is no fun to tease someone that doesnt get bothered by it. contacts are cheap now days the first pair i got cost me 3 times what it is now, tell your parents you would like contacts thier about the same price as glass`s
