Are you using Yahoo Mail? If so, just download the toolbar. If not, please repost question with email server/program.

Set up Alerts in Mesenger or have the email Icon on the toolbar set for mail alerts. There are no other alerts for yahoo mail.
Wait, I just thought of this. Check in the Yahoo Widgets and see if there is a Desktop mail alert there. I would think a Widget brainiac would of thought ot that by now and made one. Worth a check.

What kind of message? If you have a yahoo email account, and you have messenger loaded, you can set it to alert you to new emails. You can also have certain emails sent to your phone so you get an alert that way.

but make sure u download correct one
because tool bar for firefox is different for IE
