first try this - click start then run type

taskmgr

then click ok > does this work > if not then the snap in may be disabled or been deleted

Goto the control panel then add and remove programs > then windows components > just take all the ticks out of the boxes and then click ok (remember which ones you took the ticks out of) then restart your PC

Now go back the add and remove and put the tick back and make sure assessories is tick and managment is ticked - try this

or if you are comfortable with this ; you local domain policy may have blocked you

Start -> Run ->

Gpedit.msc

Navigate to "User Configuration" -> "Administrative Templates" -> "System" -> "Ctrl+Alt+Del Options"
In the right side of the screen verity that "Remove Task Manager"" option set to "Disable" or "Not Configured"
close this program now then
Start -> Run -> type

gpupdate /force - click ok

see if this works if not and only do this if you are comfortable with dealing with the windows registry

Start -> Run -> type

regedit

now you should see yellow folders down the left with plus's

click on the plus next to each of the file structures below and on the last file - highlight it - then you should get some values on the right hand window ensure that they are set to - dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DisableTaskMgr"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy Objects\LocalUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DisableTaskMgr"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system\]
"DisableTaskMgr"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"DisableCAD"=dword:00000000

once this is done click on the file then exit and the restart your computer

follow these steps and this shoudl sort this problem out for you

In WinXP , simultaneously press the CTRL-ALT-DELETE key. When the window pops up, select Task Manager from it.
