Zongshen partners up with Harley Davidson
So much for made in america

2006-08-24 09:13:49 · 11 answers · asked by Anonymous in Cars & Transportation Motorcycles

I work for a manufacturer, and a lot of the parts are from asia, we have 4 factories overseas and we do some oem components for HD (I can't say what)
HD are the fords of motorcycles, ASSEMBLED IN AMERICA is what it should say.

But really, does it matter, i don't give a ***** where its made, got 2 wheels, run it.

Too bad not everybody thinks that way

I work for yamaha. I am thinking of getting a harley or may be a victory. I do not know about resale on a victory and not looked into it yet. I kind of think i might like a night train. Any way we make wave runner atvs and more here in the us. We have a bit of stuff come in from overseas but looking at it alot come from here. On trucks and walking down the assembly lines the majority of it it from the us. Just like in auto manufactuering they build where thier suppliers can be close to them also. Like said price has alot to do wiith getting thing from overseas and not here and i blame that on our government alot. With the labor laws, epa and osha rules it cost alot to run businesses here. But looking at prices of 3-4 year old motorcycles I would be close to get my money back on a harley in that range. But even with my discount if i do not sale my bike right after the 1 year manditory to keep it it would be hard for me to get all my investment back out of the bike. I do not want to argue this but am open to discuss it. If someone can show me where i am wrong in the cruiser scooters then please let me know. And those with metric cruisers how often are you asked "that ain't a harley is it?"

GET IT STRAIGHT MAN.

The Harleys will be built in the USA and shipped TO China. Zongshen is a partner that will help open the very restricted doors to access the China market. The commie bastards have ALL kinds of rules and restrictions that prevent other countries from selling in China but China dumps billions of $$ worth of goods on the rest of the world.

ONE SIDED POLITICS SUCKING THE BLOOD OUT OF THE USA, AND OTHER COUNTRIES TOO!!!

Harley is titled as the bike that helped win the war. Maybe it can win over some Chinese to the point they will enjoy that feeling of Harley freedom so much they will overthrow that bastard, repressive government they are stuck with.

And, once China is no longer communist, North Korea will no longer have big brother China to back its play. It will have to suck it up and act like a member of the human race!!!

Harley is only going to join up with them to get a foothold on the China market. MONEY and SELLS. Doesn't mean, (at least for now) that Harley will be made in China, but it's just a matter of time.

Harley-Davidsons are "made in America" but out of a great many foreign parts. For example the steel tubing used for the frames is imported from China. I have personally seen "genuine" Harley-Davidson parts come in cellophane bags marked "Made in Finland". So much for American made indeed! Here's a little food for thought for all the Harley afficiandos in the world. A H-D is only 87% American parts content while a Victory...the "other" American bike is 93% American parts content. So which is the more "made in America" bike?

It seems like almost every other company is partnering up with with another. I can not imagine Harley doing that, they have a long waiting list the way it is. At one time some of their junk was made in like Italy, although I think it was Spain. It was some off road and enduro stuff they had. Even John Deere has foreign made products. It sucks but that is the way it is.

Eh, Harleys are nice, but they seem a bit over priced to me. Just one guy's opinion!

Most all parts are made over seas, due to the labor cost. Simple, the Japanese can't invent anything, but they have made it smaller or more efficient.

whether it's a car, motorcycle or any other product you buy, ask the salesperson for the domestic content of the item. they should be able to tell you.
