Don't be fooled. Rabbits need attention. If you mean not as much attention as a dog but more than throwing food at them once a day you can look into rabbits more but they do need 1) tons of hay, veggies & dry pellets (with tons of fiber 2) exercise (time to run around in a big enough area that they can do flips in the air 3) attention (I find that when you have 2 rabbits they require less attention then one because they are together all day but lone buns get lonely just like dogs, cats, & people. also consider you may have allergies to them as well as they shed A LOT when the weather changes. Although allergies can be avoided sometimes by keeping their area super clean and brushing them often. There's also air filters you can get. Another note: most don't like to be held so they wouldn't be good to cuddle with in your lap.

If you are willing to care for it for the next 9 years though (it's life span) and willing to change it's litter and give it some love time it's a HUGE reward. They will cuddle (in their own way) and they will love you. My friend's rabbits lick her ALL the time and it's super SUPER cute. My bunny doesn't do that but he does flatten out like a pancake when I pet him and run to the door when I come home. You can find out more at rabbit.org

Hmm most dogs need a lot of attention and care (esp. puppies). Are you allergic to all kinds of cats or just long-haired? You could get a short-haired kitten and take some Claritin if you think your getting allergies. I say this because I have 2 kittens and am allergic to cats too. But havent had any problems with these two kitties, they are short haired.

Other pet options include: bunny, ferret (although I heard they are messy) thats all I can think of.

If you want something that doesn't need much care, I would suggest you aren't ready for a pet. All pets need care, and all pets need to have you interact with them everyday, especially your hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils and rats. If your pet doesn't let you handle it, you won't be able to check it and make sure nothing is wrong with it. I think that your best bet would be to volunteer for your local shelter, walking dogs or playing with the "small critters".. That way you'll be helping and learning how much care they need, all at the same time.
Good Luck

All pets need lots of taking care of, even fish! Believe it or not, they need nurturing too. They need to be fed and all. If you want a low maintenance pet, maybe you should consider getting a hamster or guinea pig. Something small.

I think you should get a hedgehog. Althoguh that depends what state you live in. Some places don't allow them. But if your's does, you can hold them and play with them but also they are fine in a good sized home that you can purchase or build yourself. So while you are at school you would not have to worry about it being bored without you.

2 bad you are allergic to cats since they make great pets(don't care if you are home or not as long as they have food and litter) a Hamster would be good for a 1st pet.Easy to care for,you can play with it and even learn it little trick's.

I've heard that a Hedge Hog is easy to take care of as well as something that can be played with and held. I would do some searching first and then decided what you think would be best for your situation.

Get a cat and a prescription for Zertek. They're easy to care for a affectionate...and very worth a runny nose every once in a while.

I have 2 pet domestic rats I got in a pet shop & they sleep all day & we play early in the morning & all evening. They are very lovable & go in a litter box in their cage.
