it was his secont time of purposely hitting someone. Harvick did it once and sat for a race a couple years ago.

It was in no way stiff enough. The cup guys go down to Busch and beat and bang their way through the race, Harvick, Stewart, Jr., Edwards, etc. and if they wreck someone it's no big deal, because it's only a Busch race and the penalty seems to be only for the Busch series if there would have been a suspension. I think that if you race in any NASCAR sanctioned event and you get penalized it should be for all sanctioned events. Suspended for a penalty in a Busch race, your also suspended in the Cup race. I think that would cut down on the rough driving by the Cup guys during a Busch or Truck event. Double probation and fines under $100,000 mean nothing to some of these teams. $20,000 might mean something to some of these 1 car privateer teams but not to a Roush or RCR team, Roush spends more than that on a pit stop for his 6 cars in the Busch series.

I agree. I don't think Carl's penalty was at all strict enough. Like you said Kevin Harvick did the same thing and had to sit out a race. The same thing should have happened to Carl and then they didn't even take any points away from him. Why did they even bother to penalize him in the first place? It's like they are letting get away scott free. I think he should have been put on probation when he ran into Tony Stewart on pit road. After that incident they should have known it would happen again.

compared to so many other drivers, Carl hasn't done anything bad. He is one of NASCAR's "best behaved" guys, and he usually deals with problems on the track very well. However, it was almost like a freak-accident when Dale Jr. attacked him for the lead. I think if anyone were in Carl's shoes, they would have done the same thing, if not anything worse.

Lots of drivers in NASCAR have done things similar to what Carl did, including ramming, clipping, and smashing intentionally. Sometimes they wouldn't even get into trouble for it! However, Carl wasn't able to escape the hands of NASCAR officials, and I think that their penalty was TOO strict. Carl really didn't do much compared to many other drivers in the past. They need to lay off Edwards.

Harvick never sat for hitting anybody as the official ruling went. He was held in the pits and NASCAR said he was aggressive toward the official there.

As for Edwards, he deserves more, such as a bigger fine and hit in points. Since this really isn't Edwards' character on the track, I say he should get some leniancy this time, but none next time.

No I think it was a laughable penalty.twenty thousand is nothing to a Cup driver like Edwards.I have pretty much been shocked by Carl's behavior of late,I thought he was a pretty level headed driver until recently.I don't know if it's the pressure of not winning races like he did last year or what but I am about to change my opinion of him.I originally thought he was going to be one of the up and coming Representatives for NASCAR in the future now I'm not so sure.Who is the real Carl Edwards? Is it the level headed driver from last year ,or the maker of bone headed moves we have seen of late?Only time will tell.I hope it is the former.

way too stiff. stewart has intentionally taken people out a number of times this year with no penalty. junior took edwards out then complains and lies when he gets it back. watch the replay. his hand is on the post - not out the window. the window net was still up. also if he remembers that edwards turned him at atlanta two years ago, yes he did get him back. don't try to tell me that's the only altercation harvick had been in either.

I think it wasn't. Carl needs to watch himself but I think Carl should of sat out for a race. Not a Nextel just a Busch race.
20,000 dollars isn't anything Carl is worried about losing. Nascar at least should of taken some points.

Actually Harvick was already on probation for ruff driving when that happened.

As for Carl, no, they didn't even take points away, points is what hurts them, the money doesn't.....it's pocket change.....if they are going to hand out a punishment, they need to make it an actual punishment, they should have taken points away like they usually do.

No it wasn't. $20,000 is pocket change to those guys. NASCAR needs to start hammering these guys. If they don't the drivers are just going to think "oh I can do what ever I want, I'll just have to pay a little fine no big deal." NASCAR needs to show who the boss is. I can't believe that there wasn't a points penalty!!!! Yeah, if NASCAR made Carl sit out a race that would put his butt back in line!

I think he should have been fined a lot more than 20,000 and on probition, he could have really hurt Jr. when he had his hand out of the 8 car.I think Edwards acted like a big baby and he should have been suspended for at least 3 races. That would have calmed he down.
