Birds are no use, because unless you break the neck or a wing when serving, they just fly away. Guinea pigs are too heavy and they'll break the racquet after only a few hits. Even rats can prove to be a little heavy.

Birds and animals should never be used as tennis balls. On the other hand, tennis balls make nice pets.

Nothing quite works. They either disintegrate on impact or they just don't bounce properly. Big Macs are quite good though and playing tennis with them is a lot safer than eating them.

I HAVE NEVER USED OR ABUSED AN ANIMAL FOR THIS PURPOSE, JUST USE A TENNIS BALL OR A SHUTTLECOCK FROM A BADMINGTON SET.

I wouldn't recommend hedgehogs. The spikes get stuck in the racket strings. Wonder if a frog would be ok...?
