Yes the current day carrot is a desendant of the european carrot which in fact was purple. Over time its DNA changed and it is now orange.

yep, but they did have quite a fight on their hands in Parliament about what colour they were going to be, orange wasn't the first choice they were going to have red but thought thick people might mistake them for a tomato
