For one thing, they got your computer number. If it shows up on their customer records two or more times--voila! multiple accounts.

Unfortunately, that could also happen if you used a computer that other people use, but it sometimes ask if it is a public computer so they will know that there will be multiple users access from that machine.

They detect multiple accounts because of your computer's personalized IP number. Each computer has it's own number, kind of like how we all have our own social security numbers. An IP number looks something like this: 123.56.447.34

it puts a "mark" on ur computer basically, just like trial downloads, etc.
