She was trying to take care of herself and her kids. She didn't hurt anyone. So I don't think she should be given time in jail.

While I do not condone stealing, we take desperate measures in desperate situations. I really wish (for her sake and her children's) she would have take a different avenue. (i.e. job and family services, shelters, food pantries etc.) However, perhaps she did to no avail or didn't know how to find these resources. Of course job and family services in this country is a joke anyway. They would probably have found a reason to turn her down and give the assistance to someone who just abuses the system and has children just to get more assistance. I don't think she should receive jail time. If she has no prior record she may very well get off w/ probation. Perhaps if she gets a chance to tell her story the court will help her find the help she needs to get on her feet.

first of all right thing for her to do from the beginning would have been to get on some sort of public assistance , if she really was that poor she would have qualified immediately for food stamps and other assistance, but she should have also considered the possibility's of a shelter for the children, and as far as the jail time, if mom does not have enough sense to get help for her children before they went 2 days without food than maybe she should spend a little time in jail. chances are your probably not hearing the whole story. just my thought

No it was not right .. but as a single mother she had to do that for the kids not her.. They should offer her a job and give her a pay advance so she can get a hotel or something and $20 in free food to help her out. I would do that If i caught her. Thats sad to even to consider her going to jail.

No I guess they shouldn't, but there are other ways to get help. She could go to a church and ask for food, Shelters, etc. It's not right for anyone to steal, no exceptions. It is a sad case, and I feel for her.

Well, no I don't. But I also think she can't take care of those kids right now.
