It takes very specialized equipment and software to recover a permanently deleted file. Emptying the recycle bin means exactly that. That IS your second, and final chance to change your mind about it.

When you empty the file from the recycle bin, the file is erase, leaving that sector(s) of the hard drive available for other files. The deleted file leaves a, lets call it a GHOST trace of its presence. There are companies that specialize in recovering these kinds of files. If that sector has been re written, the recovery is more difficult.

That's why computer security people keep reminding us to reformat our hard drives before we donate our computers, or even toss them out. They even suggest we reformat more than once, to get rid of these (ghost) files.

By the way, the guy that advised you to do a "restore." That only works BEFORE you empty the recycle bin.

You can restore it by double clicking Recycle Bin and right clicking the item you wish to restore and selecting restore.

However, if you frequently empty your Recycle Bin or set it to delete files permanently, you're out of luck.

Sure you can. Click on the recycle bin. then left click the file you need and click restore. it should work unless you emptied the bin already.

yes you can, I have tried this. You can do a search for undelete programs, some have free trials. Try it out, it should be still recoverable as long as you didn't reformat your whole HD from 1 to 0's.

try active undelete.

yes and no.
there are some special tools to recover deled files, but if you already saved something else on your hard drive, most of the time the file you are trying to recover will be corrupted or incomplete.
