My mom told me that a baby likes to be born during a storm. Is that true that a rain storm can throw you into labor?? And if that is true-why??? She said something about how women are more in touch with mother natures cycles and our periods go along with the moons. This is all weird to me and I was just curious because I am 38 weeks along tomarrow and it's going to thunder storm really bad for the next couple of days. Just wanted to know what I should expect. :-)

Haha, that is funny because when I was pregnant, I was almost 36 weeks along and I went to a New Year's Eve party. One friend told me in a joking way that my baby will come out soon because there was a storm coming. I wasn't due not for at least over a week. My hubby and I just laughed what our friend said about storms bringing on labor because of the electrical energy in the air, or something like that. 3 days after that I went into labor and had my baby (but it wasn't storming that day, just the previous days) - so who knows? Maybe just a coincidence, but it was still pretty funny. Don't worry, your baby will come when it's ready to come. Since your 38 weeks along already, it won't be a surprise if your baby happens to time its coming out during a storm. That will be a pretty good story to include in your diary or baby book, if you have one.

Goodluck to you and your baby!

Seven years ago I had a similair thing happen to me. I had bad pain on a Friday night called the doctor and they told me to come in. Got there and the pain stopped early Saturday morning. Pain free all day they were talking of sending me home on Sunday morning. I was feeling just great then late Saturday night I went into full blown labor and delivered on Sunday morning. So, I guess what I'm saying is...yes this could be the calm before the storm so to speak.

I think people just notice the storms more during birth because both are intense experiences. My friend's mom is a Labor/Delivery nurse and claims the floor is busier when there is stormy weather. There are so many old tales that claim to trigger labor. Your baby will come when it's ready. Good luck to you!

A storm won't MAKE you go into labor - just stastically, a baby is more likely to be born during rain or snow. It has something to do with precipitation. I went into labor when it was raining. :o)

It is true that your cycles are or can be connected to the moon same as the tides. It depends on how in tune you are with nature. There have been been studies that show more woman go into labor during full moons. But for thunderstorms? I haven't heard that...if its the case it may be that thunderstorms heighten some folks adrenaline levels, therefore can send them into labor.

a regular thunderstorm should not affect your pregnancy, they have said extreme weather (ex. hurricanes) can cause babys to want to come because of the drop in pressure, I dont know how true it is. I live in Port Charlotte Florida and had my son 11 days before Hurricane Charley came through and blew this town to pieces, there were alot of babies norn around that time, however my sister in law was visiting at 8 months pregnant and nothing happened with her. I guess Its possible to have some affect, but may just be coincidence.

My water broke 10 days early with my first. It was a full moon. Don't know if it was coincidence or not but I"m willing to bet there was something in the air.
