using the metric system just makes sense, in order to standardize measurement around the globe. it was created by scientists. so when invented, it was designed to fit their needs, so it is a logical, simple and exact system. when making measurements of all kinds, it is only necessary to know a few metric units! In all, there are only 7 base units in this system of measurement! compared to the twenty base units found in the inch-pound system of measurement, it is much easier to remember. the metric system also follows the decimal number system, so each metric unit increases or decreases in size by 10. (eg. 1 meter = 10 decimeters; 1 decimeter = 10 centimeters; etc.)

In metricsystem every quantities and dimensions relates to a base 10.
since the universal mathematical system uses base 10 it makes it easier to calculate.
However to a computer its mathematics is easier if it use base two.

It's the conversions that make it easier to deal with.
For a box that's 1 yard * 1 yard * 1 yard, how many gallons is it?
Now, if it's 1 meter * 1 meter * 1 meter, how many cubic meters is that?

The only benefits I see are that when I say I ran a 10 k, it sounds like I ran further than if I said I ran 6.3 miles.

its base-10 system allows for easier computation, and it is used by most of the world, so it would put more of us on the same page.

Base ten is natural for humans... you have ten fingers in the hands. To multiply or divide by ten is easy, quick and one can achieve higher precision in the calculations.
