If you are paying all that money to take their class, then it really isn't their decision!!

I can't imagine that any professors would actually care. But it would definitely depend on the professor. Perhaps there are some uptight ones out there.
While I'm not a professor, I was a graduate school teaching assistant and I've taught a number of college and graduate level classes. While it was interesting to see what my students were wearing, nothing would ever bother me.

You can wear whatever you want to class. Stay out late partying and show up in your PJs, no problem it is your dime and many of the times you may feel lucky you even made it to class. However, just like anything else in life, appearance and impressions make a difference in how you are treated. Why give yourself an extra hurdle to a good grade when you may be teetering between an A and a B or Passing and Failing.

Professors don't care what you wear but, if you smell because you are coming to class after a workout and its a small room, you probably aren't going to make any friends.

depends on the school
depends on the teacher
depends on the class
depends on the wearer (some people look so good in work out clothes it cancels a lot of potential disrespect, other physiques could potentially add to the direspect potential)
many of my professors would not have noticed if I came naked to class, they were kind of focused on their subject and the presentation, and not particularly interested in individual students

I didn't care. I taught college for 3 1/2 years... Of course I'm only 31 now, so maybe my young age had something to do with my opinion! :)

it has been my experience that it depends on who the professor is. some care and some don't. i know the vast majority of mine don't care, but a few have mentioned the fact that they don't want to see students in sweaty clothes or pajama pants.

It is insulting to smell like you just got done working out! Otherwise, professors are just glad that you are there and paying attention - they want to know that the knowledge they are imparting on you is worthwhile to your time and attention.

Learning is like a job and unless you are studying to be a phys ed teacher or fitness instructor, dress properly for class.

Some of them do. Usually the older ones take great pride in how formal their students look for lecure. It's an ego thing.

With all of the partying many college students do (I did). Sometimes it's good if they show up period!
