Points are just a way of moving up in "rank". The higher your rank, the more options you have on Yahoo! Answers. With more points and with an increase in level, you can answer more questions, vote for more answers, and rate more answers. Also, I had the pleasure of being a featured user. I was not expecting it, but once you get to a certain establishment, then Yahoo! Answers recognizes you and you have the ability to become a featured user. A featured user's name would be recognized in the Yahoo! Answer's blog and at the same time, there would be a link on top of the page informing people that you are indeed the featured user.

I used to be obsessed over points just so that I can eliminate the "limitations" that certain levels need to follow. Once I got to level 5, I had unlimited access to answering questions, so I knew I had reached my goal.

Points do not matter unless you want to be seriously involved in this community.
