Someone was on my computer and they totally erased several of my programs. I can not find a way to retrieve my microsoft files. I used these programs a lot. I do not have the discs to reinstall. Thanks for any help.

first, make sure they are gone. check your recycle bin and if not there, (assuming windows) open "My Computer". click on "search" and follow the directions. search your entire computer, not just "My Documents" or the "C:" drive.

try to find out if you have the access/registration code, if you do, register all over again with someone elses backup copy.

if you need to buy a new copy, have a friend whos a student/teacher buy MS. Office student/teacher edition and give it to you, its only about $100 - $150

as a last resort, use "System Restore", which is located under Start:all programs:accessories:system tools: system restore if you have windows XP, it reverses any major changes on your system, but be careful with it, you dont want to accidentally restore to when you first got the computer

If none of the above works, and you dont want to spend $400, download OpenOffice at openoffice.org, its an open source(free) clone.

good luck

If you have Windows XP:
Go to START, My Computer, Local Disk (C:\)
Double Click on that Icon, double click Program Files
Look for the Folder Microsoft Office, double click on it
Look for folder Office10, double click on it
Look for each of the following ICON
POWERPNT, WINWORD, EXCEL be sure of exact spelling.
Right click on ICON
Click on the line, "Pin To Start Menu"

Second option:

Instead of clicking on Program Files folder, click on documents and settings, All Users, Start Menu, Programs
Here you should see the icons for WINWORD, POWERPNT, EXCEL

If you did not find in either place, you must reinstall Microsoft Office software. You should have the installation disk.
