How did he Federalists lose power during the administration?

when jefferson was elected in 1800, he called it the "revolution of 1800". basically, the federalists lost power because the republicans won the election, and they never won another one. the ultimate death blow to the federalists is when they tried to succeed from the union. you probably know of the duel between hamilton and aaron burr... this duel resulted because burr was going to be elected governor of new york and help the succession movement, but hamilton published nasty comments about burr and made him loose. then burr killed hamilton. however, this was all going on during a war (it might've been the war of 1812 i'm not quite sure) and the reason why burr and other federalists wanted to succeed was because they were sure the US would loose. when the US won, the federalists lost credibility and their party disappeared... leading to the emergence of the Whig party.
