You might want to make sure that your friend isn't sending money or credit card #s to someone he has never met. Other than making sure your freind isn't being taken advantage of, you just have to let it play out.

Why try to convince him? As you said she lives 4000 miles away so there isn't a whole lot of chance that it will actually come to pass anyway and as most long distance relationships do it will wind itself down. Does she know about his handicap? If he has a bunch of money or something I would be worried about that aspect and if it went too far I might encourage him to take steps to protect himself financially. I would probably be more likely to attempt to contact her and share your concerns about the situation with her. Perhaps get her to let him down easy. Although I'm not clear on what your concerns are, is it his emotional well being you are worried about? When he brings it up I would probably say things like you do realize these things rarely work out, encourage him to have her 'checked' out, normal things but if you just shut him down he'll quit discussing it with you and then you won't have the info you need to help if it does get sticky. In the meantime though I don't see what it hurts for him to enjoy the moment and the hope.

If the woman and the man have been talking for a while and are really serious about each other, it's very possible that things could work out. I'm sure he has told her about the wheelchair, and they may have very well also talked about marraige. Don't discourage him, but advise him about marrying to get citizenship and of course divorce, where most women get half. Don't let him become a victim.

how do you know he don't have a chance? Is it just because he is in a wheelchair? You did say he was a friend of your right? Then why don't you support your friend.
On second thought you are right, handicap people should not have any hopes or dreams of a life.

so are you saying he has no chance because hes in a wheelchair? if u are than that is just plain wrong, u know there is such a thing as unconditional love, and unless that other person dosnt know he is in a wheelchair then why wouldnt he have a chance?

You both have said your peace. Let him find out for your self. Try and get him to make sure she is not a con artist. Caution him about scammers. Don't lend him money to finance this. Wish him well. Be there for him either way.

Maybe he does have a chance. Being far apart and crippled doesn't mean that ur life is over. What does the woman tell him ?

Why do you care? Let him find out for himself. Stranger things have happened...it is possible you know. Let him live in a fantasy land if that's what he wants. It's not your job to go around telling everyone what you think to be true.

How are YOU convinced that he doesn't have a chance?? His friend is a grown man..let him make his own choices. Be supportive. If it doesn't work...again, be supportive.

I think if you and/or your husband try to intervene, it's going to cause resentment - let it go - be supportive - see what happens, and like another poster said - be there for him if things do not work out - without an "I told you so"
Weirder things have happened :)
Bless you for caring!
