I've had 3 beautiful children. The first was born natural without any drugs except an IV in my arm since I wasn't in much pain until I had dialated to 9 cm. That's when the contractions were really coming and I asked for drugs but couldn't have any at that point. Because I didn't have drugs I believe my labor was shorter than some other deliveries where drugs are given to ease the pain. When I felt the contractions, I had the urge to push to get that baby out. Even though I threw up in the middle of labor, it went by pretty quickly I thought. You'll have the best feeling ever once your beautiful baby is finally delivered.
On the other hand, I've had 2 Cesarians. Let's just say, I'd rather deliver natural! The experience after a Cesarian was quite gut-wrenching for me. All in all, your beautiful baby is worth any pain and discomfort that childbirth might bring. Just remember to keep telling yourself that you can do it! Be a trooper and don't let anyone scare you with their own childbirth stories. If you prepare yourself to be scared and nervous, then that's what you'll be. But if you prepare yourself to be brave and fearless, that's what you will be. Good Luck to you and God Bless!

The worst pain for me was the contractions that got me dilated from 8 to 10 cm. Pushing was actually a relief for me once I got into position and could really bear down. There was a huge burning pain when I had to stop pushing the baby out so that they could maneuver her a bit to get her out, but that wasn't as bad as the last contractions because it didn't last as long.
I had planned on having a natural delivery, but once I got to the hospital my first question to the nurse was, "when is the nice man with the drugs coming???" Fortunately, there wasn't time between our arrival at the hospital and our daughter's arrival into the world for me to get an epidural. I did get a shot of Nubain to help take the edge off the pain (all hail Nubain!), but no epidural.
How did I get through it? My husband. He held my hand, helped me focus and helped me breathe. If it weren't for him, I don't know how I would have done it. He was amazing.
If you're going to have a baby, go through child birthing classes. Learn all you can about the process of labor and delivery. But, mostly, have someone you trust and love with you to hold your hand and tell you to breathe.

The labor hurts worse then the delivery. The delivery is normally over in a matter of minutes. I had two babies naturally, not by choice the first time, and you do forget the pain as soon as you see the beautiful little person that caused you to scream like a banshee...hahaha.
Actually the worst part about having a baby is the fear of not knowing what you are going to be feeling. It is different for everyone. You do what you need to do to make it easier on you.

The worst pain is the transition stage of labor. Thats when your contractions are the worst and your dialating from 7-10 cm. If you make it through the contractions, the pushing is actually a relief.....lol All these folks who plan these natural childbirth are crazy to me.....I had an epidural with 3 of my kids and an IV pain med with the other one.

I did my whole childbirth natural (not on purpose though dang it) and the most painful part was withouta doubt pushing. It literally feels like being torn in half. Equally though, the contractions, while not as painful, were unbelieveably exausting.
However, with good drugs I hear it's alot easier and if I have any more children. I'm going to make sure I'm never far from an epidural ready location ;)

I had an epidural pretty early on in my labour - I had pitocin and was progressing really slowly despite the pain. The worst pain started in the evening (she was born at 11:31 PM). I got a pain in my left leg that wouldn't go away despite the epidural being on the highest dose. It got worse and worse and made it difficult to push - it was like someone trying to rip my leg off. My baby never dropped - I had to push her down, and when I did, she pressed on a nerve going into my leg. The pain went away the second she was born. Of course, I pushed for 2 hours, so it was a lot of pain.

It all really depends on what your pain tolerance IS. I always thought my pain tolerance was very LOW. I tear up at a hangnail, however, I was a champ at childbirth. Does it hurt? YES - but not ALL the time and if you think of WHY it hurts and WHAT you are going to get out of it - it's a pretty cool feeling. I did have a "walking epidural" both times and I still felt pain during the strongest contractions, but if you have a good coach (my husband was a champ), then, you'll be fine. Just let them know AHEAD OF TIME if you want to be massaged or NOT touched - do you want constant conversation or for them to SHUT up!!! GOOD LUCK!!! You'll do great!!!!

the suitable discomfort alleviation is the epidural. For me it took all the discomfort away. of direction there became discomfort until now the epidural, yet as quickly as i became getting that drugs I felt no longer something and it became astonishing. some human beings nonetheless experience stress with an epidural nevertheless. Contractions felt like good sized era cramps, yet one hundred situations worse using fact the hard artwork stepped forward. i did no longer have time for an epidural with my 2nd toddler and whilst her head became crowning it felt like a burning sensation. After the toddler became born nevertheless all the hard artwork discomfort went away and the contractions stopped.
