Molality is moles of solute per kilogram of solvent.
Molarity is moles of solute per liter of solution.

Volume changes with temperature but the mass does not. The volume of a solution could change with a temperature change which would change the MolaRity but the MolaLity would stay the same....

Molarity based on volume, so is temperature dependent while molality is independent of temperature change. So this unit is useful when dealing with colligative properties.
