Simply:
A reward = that which you get when you do something good and meaningful and you get a reward on top of it. For example, when you return a set of lost keys, the owner may reward you financially or treat you to lunch or something as a reward for your kind deed
An award = A token of you having accomplished something. E.g when an actor is awarded an oscar for a good acting role. Its not a financial gain, but its a form of recognition, something you can use as a decorative article (like an olympic medal) which is a reminder of your achievement or level of accomplishment.

An award is honorary and reward is monetary. Or you could say that an award is for distinguished accomplishment where a reward is a compensation for having completed a task.

An AWARD is something given to you in recognition of something you've done, whereas a REWARD is something given to you for anything remotely good you've done. To qualify for an AWARD, you have to have done something really good, something special, something out of the ordinary, it is AWARDED to you.....
