My husband has been having constant headaches for 15 days now and they have run a CT and MRI scan. Our family practitioner doesn't know what is causing them and we want to see a doctor who specializes in this. However, I am not sure which speciality I should be looking for. Thank you for your help.

Find a Family Medicine doctor who has sub-specialty training in Sports Medicine. You need someone to diagnose and treat the migraines as they may indicate a separate issue, and you need a sports medicine doctor who can relate to and help you with your other injuries. If you see a Sports Medicine doctor outside of family medicine then he's a specialist who will cost more. Insurance plans will usually ask you to get a referral for a specialist from your family doctor first so this way you're saving yourself time and grief.

Some neurologists can be good at treating headaches, but they're not really headache specialists. They're somewhat like family doctors in that they treat so many illnesses, diseases, and injuries, that they really can't specialize in any one of them. There actually ARE doctors who specialize in treating only headaches and migraines.

It depends on the severity and frequency. A general practitioner is a good place to begin. Since causes vary, the specialist you may need to see will vary also. A neurologist is common (mainly to determine there is no underlying serious cause). Allergies can also cause severe headaches....allergy doctor. Hormones are one of the most common causes in women....an OB/GYN. You see where this is going. Stress-psychologist. Food triggers-dietitian. Good luck.
