might be your comp is overheating. you might enter the bios on a restart sometime and watch your operating temp for about ten minutes to make sure it's not going above tolerance for your processor/machine

Normally is either the PSU power not enough, the Graphic Card (Video Card) is having problem, or the RAM is insufficient.

Since u mention the screen shut off but there's still power going on, so i guess the Graphic Card might need to change or u need to upgrade the RAM.

Maybe go and get a new graphic card to replace it and also upgrade the RAM also.

Good Luck.

The 1st thing I'd check is:
Display Properties, Under the "screen saver tab", click on the "Power" button under "Monitor Power" Check your settings
under the "Power Schemes" tab and the "Hibernate" tab.
I'd also be curious if this happens with a differnent monitor, it could very likely be a conflict with your specific monitor.

Sometimes when I have certain programs open (like iTunes sometimes), the computer will run really "hot" and shut off, with the power light blinking red. I wait a couple minutes and it works. Sounds like the same deal.

This sounds like one of three things, the PSU, motherboard or CPU. You will have to do some testing, but you would have to have another computer with pretty much the same components to switch and test.

If one of your cards (graphic, sound, TV etc.) can have a inharmonious each other. Try to change their place on slots. Or remove all hardware and install last drivers from product manufacturer sites.

I doubt your cpu is overheating, otherwise the whole comp would shut off. I would recommend replacing your video card. My guess is that the fan on your video card has blown out.
